    America True has come to embody the best our country has to offer. Unity, equality and indomitable spirit -- these are just a few ideals that both the crew and the ship represent. The logo I created summarizes the best of a diverse America, symbolically pulling together our country from east to west.
    For me, sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge signifies both the thrill and security of coming home. Yet the Statue of Liberty is equally meaningful in that it is a constant reminder of where we come from. Although separated by breadth of space, the two landmarks are united in feeling -- one a greeting for all the earth east of America, the other a welcome of the western world.
    Every hue is included in the colors of America True, just as each hope is contained in its mighty sails. From the inner city child to the Midwestern youth who has never seen the sea, there are many dreams fulfilled with each voyage. It is my hope to convey their wishes in my work.
    If one little girl can gather courage and strength from my design, can envision one day commanding a ship that can join the country and unify her people, then I have done my job as an artist. I have experienced the power of this kind of inspiration in my work with disabled youth in Benicia, as well as my daughter, who I have raised on my own. Now we have a chance to empower the entire public, your audience, on a higher magnitude.
